EnglishPower strips come in various shapes and sizes. They can have plastic-coated heads or feature banks of plug-in outlets housed in large metal boxes. Some feature LED switches that indicate when the power is on. Others come with a push button that trips if the power supply gets too hot. Typically, power strips are used for high-voltage items and are not intended to serve ancillary power sources.
Power strips are convenient to use when you need multiple outlets for several electronic devices. In general, power strips are small, thin devices that plug into a standard wall outlet. Most also come with an on/off switch and circuit breaker. However, most do not offer any real protection against electrical problems. They are essentially no better than plugging your devices directly into the wall.
If you're concerned about electrical safety, you may want to consider purchasing a surge protector. Surge protectors protect your electronics from surges and keep your home safe. However, be sure to buy one that is designed for this specific purpose.
